When Montgomery County Public Schools cut an art project out, Alan and Shannon Sherman stepped in. Their generosity helped Christiansburg High School students blend geography and civics lessons while honing their artistic talents and connecting to youth a continent away.

Creating portraits of orphans from South American for this non-profit project, CHS art students included Bridget Alderman, Marena Coppola, Sarah Foretich, Shae Gentile, Carmen Graves, Amanda Hale, Katelyn Kast, Sara Lane, Brandon Lytton, Sara Martin, Avalon McMullen, Dani Motley, Zach Newman, Gwen Sewell and Brittany Turn. Art instructor Betty Moore lead the students. Several of these students currently have other art on public display at the Gallery @ Coffee Depot, Downtown Christiansburg.
The CHS Art Department will conduct a Memory Project ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 2nd in the school library from 11:30 am until 1:00 pm. This project shows how kind hearts and talent can make smiles appear a little brighter for all those who were involved.
