Today is the final May election for Town Council seats.

There are over 13,000 registered voters in the Town of Christiansburg.  Many are lifelong or long time residents.  Many are second or third generation, now young professionals with families of their own who chose to remain in their hometown.  Many of these voters are relative newcomers who were attracted to the area for higher education or employment at Virginia Tech, Radford University or Blacksburg's Corporate Research Center.  Many are homeowners, and a growing number are renters.

All are encouraged to make time today and go vote at the Christiansburg Armory, located at the corner of College and Depot Streets, just off of Franklin and adjacent to the town's Fire and Rescue buildings.

Polls opened at 6 am and close at 7 pm.  Early poll watchers indicate the new electronic system for checking voter registration is working well and is making the process faster.  Per Randy Wertz, Voter Registrar, during the first 15 minutes the polls were open 51 citizens cast their ballots and this may indicate a stronger turn out than in many past elections.  Your vote is still needed.

Comments responding to blogs only go so far.  Attending a Town Council meeting and watching or making comments only go so far.  What matters is actually going and casting your ballot.  Remember the saying: Voters who vote change elections.  Voters who do not vote change elections.
