In the Sunday Roanoke Times Current section, a profile of two newcomers to Christiansburg Town Council was published.

While the newspaper copy provides more information, if you haven't seen it -- do take the time to read the online edition.

We suggest you "clip and save" the article, to refer to when the next town election occurs in May 2010 (seats coming up will include Brad Stipes, Ernie Wade and Ann Carter, as well as the Mayor's position).  Compare and contrast stances or their opinions on various subjects, thinking about issues important to you.  Candidates for 2010 town elections will begin collecting 125 signatures in order for their names to be placed on the ballot about one year from now (seats are at large and nonpartisan).

Remember, too, that a petition to have a referendum moving town elections from May to November has been certified.  This question will be put before voters in this November's election, and is hoped will serve to expand both candidate pools and voter turn out or participation while saving some tax money.

Another suggestion is to seriously consider yourself as a candidate for Christiansburg Town Council or Mayor.  Especially if you think you have the time and can make a positive contribution to the future of the Town of Christiansburg.  Whether you agree with current or past council members and how they have voted on any issue, remember to thank them for their public service -- otherwise, it truly can be a thankless job.

(Note:  This relates to wherever you live, whatever your politics.  County Board of Supervisors, School Boards, as well as appointed bodies.  See also this blog about neighboring Floyd.  The point is to be an informed voter and someone who participates in our democratic processes.)
