The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors finally awarded the bid for construction of the new courthouse.  This dialog has been ongoing since 2000 with a false start in 2003.  The final price for this building is $19.1 million.  Previous reports had estimated this phase as being expected to cost about $27 million.

Like the current courthouse when built in the mid 70s, this new facility is projected to meet the community's needs for the next 25 years.

Bet this increases values for adjacent privately held property.  It's another sure bet the town's small parking lot doesn't serve today's needs and this will become more obvious -- even with a county garage -- once the new building opens in the fall of 2011.  Still -- finally!  Now watch for bid info and signs of construction in front of the Christiansburg Police Department, as streetscaping on that side of East Main was targeted to begin last month.
