Mr. Canada...

...says he doesn't like to be intimidated by the actual things he says? He would rather say what he wants (rather rudely and uninformed at that) and be able to go back later and change it to fit the person(s) he's in front of at the time. What a crock! Unfortunately, I think he is just stupid enough to say out loud what some of the others are thinking. Let's see... Lance, the Mayor, Mike Barber, Ann Carter, et all have shown their disdain for those that record or write about what they do (and don't do). This goes to the root problem of this Town Council. They want to run it like it is the 1950's and they are the local celebrities. I just get madder and madder every time I see or hear (and now read) what these PC and TC members do and say. They are not looking out for the best interest of the cititzens or even the Town as a whole. It is what's in it for me. We need to impeach the entire lot, fire Lance and put some leaders with some common sense and common courtesy on the Council.

Think! Christiansburg replies:

What may have been perceived as intimidating are citizens who attend and are involved in public meetings. The question is why making information widely available or citizen engagement might be perceived negatively, as well as an appointed body straying away from its legal functions. These people are entitled to their free speech and opinions, too. Not agreeing is one thing, deriding is another -- let's take the high road here.

Weird

What is so weird is that town council and manager, or even their legal attorneys, don't see the problem here. You can't make this kind of stuff up.

Inconvienent that what is said can be recorded now days. Harder to deny or be unable to remember what was said or who said it this way. Good that someone has the time and means to tivo this because you can't trust the task to the town (meeting minutes, code updates etc) and then it is just hearsay. Or it gets like national politicians flat out lying even when they are shown the tape, saying they didn't say that or something was out of context. If they don't like the heat, leave the kitchen.

I do not understand this

It appears as if some members don't get they are appointed by town council and not the other way around. It also appears as if some members don't care whether the council liaison and town manager would have a conflict in attending both meetings if they were to be held at the same time. It does not appear to add a burden of time or work for the appointed group and only seems to favor perhaps giving citizens a chance to hear about a town business item and perhaps follow up with town council members if they wish. Add this to the brouhaha over November voting and it begins to make Christiansburg government look like small children fighting over identical toys. We are supposed to be a democracy, not a private club.

A Concerned Taxpayer says:

There probably is a good reason to feel "Intimidated."

I think that any representative of the people who feels that they are being "intimidated" probably deserves to feel that way because he has a guilty conscious about what he is doing. Any public servant that is doing what they should be doing has no fear of feeling "intimidated." Anyone who feels otherwise is probably guilty of their paranoid feelings.

Think! Christiansburg replies:

Probably just normal responses during period(s) of change. Some people have more tolerance and/or resilence for any type of change than others.
