Christiansburg lost something very special this Monday.

The Reverend Doctor Donald J. Dunlap passed away.

A 1950 graduate of Christiansburg High School, Dr. Don had the most wonderful stories about growing up in town, and he would share tales about its people and events with a glint in his eyes and great glee in the telling.  When preparing for a high school reunion a few years back, one wonders how the planning ever got done because the group spent so much time laughing and cutting up.

Dr. Don traveled away from Christiansburg during his service as a pastor, yet upon retiring he returned to his hometown and continued to be engaged in good works in the community including serving on the board of directors for the Montgomery Museum and Lewis Miller Regional Art Center.  His love for this town and people was apparent, and his wife Kay and their daughters were blessed to have him as their own.

Dr. Don will be laid to rest in Christiansburg's Sunset Cemetery today -- and so while he won't be far from us, his presence will still be missed.  Obituary.
