Christiansburg's next Town Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 16 beginning at 7:30 pm.

This light agenda includes recognition for new Patrol Officers and a citizen is scheduled to speak, again, about recent sewage backup in his home.  The Street Committee is expected to recommend plats creating 18 lots on Agee Street and 3 new lots at the end of Reading Road.  And then, at the end, will be the manager's Progress Report.

This means there's nothing expected which will bring out crowds of citizens, making this another "tedious" night, as the Town Manager recently commented about a previous meeting.  Public and Citizen Hearings meant some time was spent on listening, delaying council from getting to "our own agenda."  How's that for a welcome, citizen?

What's absent from the agenda is council discussing:

  • Whether a sewer extension long planned for Elk Drive has been accomplished;
  • What mediation steps have been taken to address recent urban floods or why sewer backups occurred;
  • Hearing a report from the newly formed Aquatics Board providing more details on future plans or their election of officers or any further discussion on the facility's business plan;
  • Talking about how council wants to proceed with expanding public transportation options in the town.  That could include providing more information on the use of anticipated CDBG funds finally being accessed or what the possible bus routes and schedules might look for expanded bus service;
  • Details on what or how or when the Town will approach a comprehensive tourism and economic development plan to market local attributes (including more than just town services);
  • Updates on RFPs for bringing the obsolete Town Code into compliance, or;
  • How the revamped web site launched in January is progressing, and what additional features and resources can be expected.

Without these items on any agenda, expect a relatively brief evening -- but do come and watch your town government in action!
