The free fare for the three new Christiansburg bus routes has been extended from Dec. 31 until Jan. 31, 2010. This gives residents a longer period of time to check out the new service.
That's probably a good idea. Since the launch was geared toward getting shoppers to the mall area for the height of the retail season, but it's winter -- some people are justifiably less inclined to face possible inclement weather via public transportation.
This makes sense when you see that people were stranded when Blacksburg Transit abruptly canceled service at 5 pm today, leaving some riders far from home without personal transportation just three hours after snow started falling.
