Regular readers realize a lot found on "Think Christiansburg" revolves around town politics -- what tax rates are, how efficiently these revenues are used, how the Comprehensive Plan and Zoning regulations impact quality of life and support or direct promotion of economic development, including tourism and historic preservation.

Since the Christiansburg Town Council adopted its fiscal year 2008-2008 annual budget, capping contributions to a regional tourism initiative while seeking funds to promote itself, readers can expect impending renegotiations of the related contract will receive a goodly amount of interest and attention.

Watching this initiative develop and evolve, this writer's own perspectives have changed somewhat too, through regular attendance at town meetings and direct involvement with council members, and chamber or Tourism Development Council (TDC) representatives.

Communications may have been a contributing factor for revisiting expectations, and it should be noted this is a complex subject with polarized ideas for arriving at the same goals (increasing revenues for both businesses and therefore the town).

If you're interested in where this goes from here, a review of the chronologically reversed links to trace the path of regional tourism development and funding published during the past 10 months may help readers develop a better understanding of the issues:
