Blacksburg Transit (BT) is tentatively scheduled to begin new bus routes in Christiansburg by "Black Friday" -- just in time to help holiday shoppers on the mall loop or taxpayers to get to Town Hall on the downtown loop.

Town officials asked the Town of Blacksburg, which owns and operates BT, to run the new Christiansburg service for free until the first of 2010.

But where will it go, where will the bus stops be located?  What will it cost when rates do go into effect?  How do riders connect from one loop to another, or use the call ahead services?

BT representatives are scheduled to provide more info to the public and Christiansburg Town Council at their next meeting on Monday, Nov. 2 (their regular Tuesday meeting was shifted so there wasn't a conflict with election day).

In Blacksburg, extra routes are being scheduled to assist getting voters to their respective polling places.  When the new service for Christiansburg was first proposed, the targeted start date was mid-October.

Too bad this new service in Christiansburg couldn't have been put into place before November 3rd.  Happenstance or design is a moot point -- the  goal now will be that the new routes are well advertised, and available to residents who will be voting for council seats and a mayor May 2010
