One of the other items addressed at Christiansburg's council meeting on Oct. 6 was a continued reassignment of some duties away from the town manager.

It has been mentioned the manager won't be working for the town forever, and so this should be seen as prudent transition planning in preparation of his retirement -- such as shifting more duties to the new Treasurer/Finance Director from the manager and his assistants.

Another one of the many "hats" the manager previously wore was Zoning Administrator, and these functions have been shifting to Planning Director Randy Wingfield.  This department is responsible for permitting and enforcement related to outdoor advertising; planning; subdivision review; zoning; and "a host of other related topics" according to the town's website.  In the past, this was all done under the direct supervision of the manager.

The shift of responsibilities continued with council formally naming the Planning Director as the Secretary to the Planning Commission, rather than the town manager.  This will require related governing documents be updated to reflect the change.

And, since it was also announced the new "IT and web guy" had been hired, citizens can hope the related web pages are updated to reflect this and several other changes (along with implementing "a host of other" bells and whistles).
