In reading an article by Lerone Graham in today's Roanoke Times Current, there was a discrepancy between what had been written there and posted here (Item #6) as regards a boundary line adjustment. There are two of these sitting on the town's plate right now, one adjacent to the new middle school and another behind Lowe's. But council's agenda does indicate the Buffalo Drive property and "potentially an additional approximately 15 acres" as both being included for tonight's meeting.
One is indeed instead for about 153 acres which has already been rezoned for a multi-phased residential subdivision the town manager assures council and citizens will result in new real property taxes (but leaves the county wondering how it will impact other public service and education costs). The other one is for about 15 acres of commercial property the county rejected rezoning for, and the town agreed to a revenue sharing deal in exchange for the boundary adjustment.
A cynic may wonder why so many items of potential significance are all appearing on a single agenda. This includes discussions on "mandatory trash pick up" and the Board of Supervisors asking the town to abandon its own Comprehensive Plan.
An optimist may hope today's weather doesn't deteriorate and bring icy winter conditions which dissuade citizens from attending tonight's meeting. Town Council will be meeting at the Municipal Building, East Main and Roanoke Streets, Downtown Christiansburg, on the second floor at 7:30 pm, regardless.
