Nineteen months after getting an assignment from Town Council, the appointed Planning Commission may have a recommendation for a zoning amendment relative to Historic District Overlays.  Some council members have stated there "is a plan now" even though no information has been made public, much less any forums to gather input on the issue or process.

Another recommended change to the town's Zoning ordinances was tabled by council at their Sept. 1 meeting; however this topic returns as an agenda item for the Planning Commission as well.  This meeting is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 14 at 4 pm.  Another "old business" and unresolved item relates to electronic signs

Town Council will meet Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 7:30 pm, beginning with recognition of the Parks & Rec Department's "Ozone Baseball" boys program.  During the Citizens Hearings, Glen Reynolds and Sam Lionberger will update council on the aquatic center.  The electronic sign issue and provisions for Floodplain Districts will again be taken up, first for citizen comment and then scheduled for action by council.

One might also expect an update from the Christiansburg Kiwanis as regards the upcoming Wilderness Trail Festival and Friday's Marshall v VT tailgate.  The Cemetery Committee will present recommendations to the full council as well.

Council is also scheduled to make appointments (now plural) to the Planning Commission.  Currently, there is one advertised vacancy which has been open since the beginning of this fiscal year.

Also, don't miss the groundbreaking ceremony for the new county courthouse on Friday at 10 am at East Main and Pepper Street, across the road from Town Hall.
