Showing -- once again -- that the Planning Commission often requires even more time to meet its responsibilities than those who serve on the Town Council, the next PC meeting agenda was posted on Monday.  This public notice is to happen at the same time members receive their meeting materials. 

This demonstrates it is possible to get an agenda out to the public well before the typical "less than 24 hours notice" granted by Town Council.  That public body reportedly receives materials when they arrive for the meeting. 

But don't look for the PC meeting notice or agenda to be posted on the town's web site.  That doesn't happen (perhaps another state mandate is in order?).

Notable is how the TC is responsible for Item #1, yet seems to have delegated both the process and recommendation for the appointment of an anticipated unfilled term on the PC, relegating itself to a cursory acceptance.  The question is not so much "who" will be recommended, but "how" the selection is made:  closed session or open session?

Notice is hereby given that the Christiansburg Planning Commission will be meeting in the Christiansburg Town Hall located at 100 E. Main Street, Christiansburg, Virginia on Monday, August 18, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. for the purpose of allowing the full Commission to review the following: 

1) Consideration of the candidates for an advisory recommendation for appointment to the Planning Commission. 

2) Consideration of amendment to Chapter 3 “Advertising” of the Christiansburg Town Code in regards to provisions for roof, wall, and marquee signage. 

A description of the preceding reviews, the Town's Advertising Ordinance, Zoning Map, Zoning Ordinance and Future Land Use Map may be viewed in the Christiansburg Town Hall, 100 East Main Street, Christiansburg, VA 24073-3029 during normal office hours of 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Written comments may be sent to the preceding address; please allow adequate mailing time.
