It can be so difficult to determine when the Christiansburg Planning Commission (PC) will meet.

Traditionally, they have met the Monday before council meetings (first and third Tuesdays of each month).  To be responsive to business matters and recognizing a lot of holidays (Holy Days) are on Mondays, they often shift their schedule.  The PC is, by Town Code, allowed to determine when it meets, rather than having dates and times set by town administrators or council.  And, depending on the complexity or number of items before them, their meetings might begin at 3 pm or at 4 pm.  The meetings, however; are always held in the Municipal Building on East Main (Town Hall).

The PC last met on Jan. 5th, and council had a regular meeting the following day.  The PC will meet again on Monday, Jan. 12th @ 4 pm to discuss the following agenda items (and perhaps items not on the agenda or under their purview).  The next agenda includes:

  • Montgomery County Board of Supervisors request for a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for property located at the intersection of First Street and Pepper Street, S.E. (tax parcels 527–((A))–85 & 97) for a parking garage in the B-2 Central Business District.  The Public Hearing was held on January 6, 2009, so additional comments are.....(allowed, unwelcomed, unsure).
  • A CUP requested by Radford & Co. for property on Walters Drive (tax parcel 424-((A))-14E) for residential use in the B3 General Business District.  A Public Hearing has been set for January 20th -- until then, no one is really certain what this is all about, but it sounds like additional rental property within an area designated for business use.  At a previous council meeting adjacent property owners complained about a development owned by this company.

As always, interested persons are welcome to attend (well, these meetings are open to the public).  Viewing related documents can occur in the Town Hall during regular business hours (they are not provided to council meeting attendees nor available online on the town's website).
