One of the best things about Christiansburg is its
recreation facility, located at the intersection of North Franklin and Cambria Streets. One of the best things about the recreation facility is how it serves a large number of citizens with diverse interests.
Another great thing about the recreation center is its personnel. This team was assembled by
Art Price, who is profiled in today's
Roanoke Times Current in an article by Donna Alvis-Banks.
Having approximately 12,700 active members represents a significant level of service to the community. The facility is open to all town residents or businesses located within its borders, and reasonable fees make it available to residents in surrounding areas. An extensive selection of special
programs designed for all ages are offered at nominal costs, too.
The P&R Department sponsors and manages the very popular July 4th Celebration at CHS and the annual Christmas Parade, another traditional favorite for locals. This department also works with other area organizations, such as the
Montgomery Museum and local chamber of commerce, to assist with their annual festivals and has more public park locations than one might have realized.
If this department's mission statement were to be used as a high-level report card, most citizens could agree they've earned an A+:
The Christiansburg Department of Parks and Recreation exists to promote and implement leisure programs and services that enhance the quality of life for all ages. In partnership with the community, we pledge to deliver quality leisure programs and services in a personal, effective and successful manner.
If you don't already, make time to visit this facility and see all that it has to offer.
