Have you made a list of New Year Resolutions? Along with usual ones for eating healthier, spending extra time with loved ones and exercising more, consider:
- Resolve to be more patient with any who seem different or you disagree with, seeking to understand their point of view;
- Resolve to drive slower and less often, consolidating trips or figuring out how to access public transportation;
- Resolve to be more involved in our democracy, teaching yourself about issues which affect quality of life or taxes and be sure to vote;
- Resolve to learn how local, county, state and federal government are interconnected and why this is so important for regional collaboration;
- Resolve to attend a public meeting at least every other month;
- Resolve to support preservation -- music, art, history -- giving of your time, talents or a membership;
- Resolve to sort, store and recycle (whether curbside or taking to a collection center);
- Resolve to volunteer at a shelter (whether for the aged, homeless, battered or abandoned).
Any one of these are worthy efforts and may contribute to a better outlook and community. Hoping all in the NRV have a happy, bountiful and healthy 2009 !
