If you've ever wondered what gets built where, and why -- attending a Christiansburg Planning Commission meeting can start you along the path of understanding.

Why does Christiansburg look so distinctly different from Blacksburg or Radford, Salem or Roanoke, or Floyd and Pulaski?  Much of this revolves around Zoning ordinances and how one locality writes and interprets these codes, leading to the types of businesses licensed here or investors attracted to our town.  Much of the local zoning codes must be aligned to State Code as well, so interpretation becomes key for those who are appointed by Town Council.

At their next meeting, this appointed body will discuss changes to ordinances which could then pave the way for special use permits requested by individuals.  A discussion about making a recommendation to fill a vacancy is also on the agenda.

Student, retiree, business owner or regular Joe/Josie Plumbers are all invited to attend and observe their government in action at 4 pm Monday in Town Hall.
