Christiansburg Town Council will begin a public meeting at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, August 18.  First up is a Conditional Use Permit for 111 Second Street, to allow residential housing for handicapped or the elderly.  Since this is a street that barely allows room for single vehicles, much less emergency equipment, it is hoped Council will consider other safety concerns including carbon monoxide detectors and fire sprinkling systems.

Dr. John White is scheduled to provide a briefing on Virginia's First Industrial Development Authority. While there is no record of any such authority, there is a NRV PDC First Regional authority created by 15 member localities back in 1999, funding, economic development and partnering have remained in a holding pattern for this Pulaksi County land since then.

Council is expected to take action on a previous request to rezone a former bank branch office for a church, and has yet to address related parking concerns.  They will also hear the Street Committee come back with another request to reconfigure lot lines on a property in Cambria which was just rezoned.  At that time, it was noted each step in the development process is presented to council independently,  rather than as a whole and so getting a clear picture of risks or benefits.

Come down to Town Hall and watch how things develop. It may be that Council also takes up an appointment to the Planning Commission, which was seeking applicants through July 31 but has not been determined yet (this appointed body could be made larger, yet has been short a member during its' last four meetings).  This appointment and the types of decisions which come before that commission, too, may tie in nicely with Council updating the Floodplain requirements of the Town Code to conform with minimum standards of the Commonwealth of Virginia during this meeting.
