The next regular meeting of the Christiansburg Town Council is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 7:30 pm in the Municipal Building.  The agenda:

  • Adoption of an ordinance regarding rezoning for approximately 170 acres into Christiansburg from Montgomery County.  Friendly "Boundary Line Adjustment" agreements are an accepted legal process due to a state moratorium on annexation.  This is the second hearing on this matter.
  • Council's intention to adopt an ordinance to rezone approximately 21 acres for single-family residential with proffers.  This property is adjacent to Albert Lane and New River Valley Drive, feeding into Peppers Ferry Road around the Belmont and Dudley Drive neighborhoods, where some requests have been denied by council relative to safety issues along Route 114.  This is the second hearing on this matter.
  • Citizen Hearings will include comments from a Villas at Peppers Ferry resident regarding the Huckleberry Trail, and representatives from Christiansburg Institute will address council.  Any other citizen may  bring forward comments and concerns about town issues at this time.
  • The Planning Commission will make its recommendation to council for a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) allowing property zoned B3 on Walters Drive to be used for residential purposes.  CUPs are the accepted legal process due to a state prohibition on spot zoning.
  • Council is then expected to take action on the CUP request for Walters Drive.
  • Council will review the Water & Wastewater Agreements with Montgomery County and the county Public Service Authority; a memorandum of understanding for formation of a Joint 911 Authority; accept a certification of appreciation to Councilman Brad Stipes from the New River Valley Planning District Commission; and discuss the "formation" of a Financial Director position.
  • Council will review the bills presented by the Town Manager and authorize payment and hear the bi-weekly progress report.

Council's next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 17.  The aquatic center ad-hoc committee formed to review contract language in a lease with Virginia Tech has not rescheduled a meeting, and no organizational meeting of the recently appointed Aquatic Center Advisory Board has been set.  The Mayor's Aquatic Center "Ownership" fund drive committee established last fall has not presented any public reports to date.   The Parks & Recreation Commission will meet on Monday, Feb. 2.
