Received at 3:57 pm on Monday, June 16th:
The Christiansburg Town Council will meet at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, June 17 in the Town Hall, beginning with the Pledge of Allegiance.
A Joint Public Hearing is then scheduled as regards council's intention to adopt an ordinance for a rezoning request by Rita Irvin and Glen Holmes for property located at 310 Holmes Street from Agricultural to R-3 Multi-family residential; a conditional use permit (CUP) to allow the Dwelling Place Christian Fellowship, located at 3325 N. Franklin School to operate a private school in the B-3 General Business District; and another CUP to allow Bishop Townhomes, Inc. to operate a sales office at 65 Salem Lane in an R-3 Multi-family Residential District.
The regular meeting will be called to order and previous meeting minutes reviewed and approved. A Citizens Hearing will then be held in regards to the Planning Commission's recommendations on the previous Joint Public Hearing requests. Typically, the regular council meeting goes into recess while the Planning Commission again meets for final discussion and consideration of comments made during the Joint Public and Citizens hearings.
The next item on the agenda is an update on the Huckleberry Trail Extension, from its present terminus at the NRV Mall to the town's Recreation Facility at Franklin and Cambria streets. A committee meeting on this matter was just held to review and finalize the suggested pedestrian bridge over Peppers Ferry Road.
Next, a Resolution for a revenue sharing agreement between the town and Montgomery County will be presented. Note that details on how this revenue is derived and how it is to be shared or other general terms and conditions have not been provided to citizens.
The final item on the agenda includes the Town Manager's Report, where progress on various projects are provided for town council. This may include items such as Parks & Recreation events, upcoming Virginia Municipal League meetings, construction projects such as the aquatic center or downtown streets projects, or hiring of key personnel. Topics or details are not included on the agendas.
Plan to attend this meeting and be active in your democracy. Council's next meeting won't be held until Tuesday, July 1st, same time and location. Note that surrounding jurisdictions will have their new members installed by that date, whereas Christiansburg's newly elected council members will come on board effective September 2, 2008.
