Today is a big day for the Ts and for Christiansburg. It's election day, time for residents to choose who will guide them through the predictably choppy waters of FOIA compliance (maybe, someday, we hope) and learning good governance.

If you read the Roanoke Times, you already know that the we are being sued. A $30,000,000+ lawsuit (three counts each seeking $10MM plus punative damages related to each charge) has been filed against us. We've had many emails of support, which is heartening.

Have you voted yet? Let's generate a record turnout and make sure that, whatever the outcome, today's election results are what the majority of Christiansburg residents wants. (Today's voting is at the Armory, 15 College Street. Everybody votes at the same place.)

Town Council meets tonight at 7:30 pm, 2nd floor, Town Hall. On the agenda are public hearings for:
  • A Conditional Use Permit by Joseph L. Simmons (agent for property owner Lowell E. Wade) for property at 385 Radford Street (tax parcels 526 – ((4)) – 6-15) for sale and rental of construction equipment in the B-3 General Business District.
  • A Conditional Use Permit request by Showcase Home Builders for property located on Hans Meadow Road, Sherwood Drive, Robin Hood Drive, and Little John Court (tax parcels 498 – ((17)) – 7-43 and 53-63, 498 – ((18)) – 1-32, 499 – ((18)) – 1-6 and 44-52) for a planned housing development in the R-1 Single-Family Residential District. This involves reducing the R-1 setback requirement.
  • A Zoning Permit request by Michael D. Fitch (agent for property owner Raymond H. Myers) for property at 375 Bell Road (tax parcel 499 – ((A)) – 1F) for storage of contractor equipment and garbage trucks, and recycling of scrap metal in the I-2 General Industrial District.
Several citizens will speak to Council on a range of concerns, and votes are scheduled to be taken on the public hearing issues. Hope to see you tonight! It will be a long meeting, and election results may well be tabulated by the time this meeting is over.
