The Montgomery County Registrar's office has announced that the Christiansburg Town Council election results (and the Blacksburg results) will be available online as information becomes available. The Registrar's web site is http://www.montva.com/departments/vote/.

Two things are notable here.

First, the County distributed a press release - an example of public notification that Christiansburg has yet to master. This information is being spread over an even wider range now - a great use of the Web.

Second, Montgomery County is committed to using the web to disseminate information as soon as it becomes available. Christiansburg's web site is idle.  Note that Christiansburg Town Manager Lance Terpenny said he doesn't think anybody is "doing" the website right now. Shouldn't the Town Manager know what his staff is doing?

If you are concerned about this waste of resources, please call our government representatives to ask why the current web site has been abandoned while we wait (and wait and wait) for a new web site. Remember, the Town justified the hiring of another assistant to the town manager to address this simple task in 2005.

Ask each and every one of them to request that the agenda for Monday's Planning Commission meeting and Tuesday's Town Council meeting be posted on the home page. (Tell them a pdf is okay.)

Ask that the minutes of those two meetings be posted on the site as well. (Tell them the draft minutes are okay, because we don't want to wait weeks or months until the minutes are approved and may/maybe not typed up, nor  charged for printed copies and staff time for paper copies.)

Here's the contact information:
Mayor Richard Ballengee - (h) 382-4385, Town Hall 382-6128.

Finally, remember the budget meeting today, April 29, at 3 pm in the Town Manager's office. Folks will have to get off work of course, which could make attendance difficult. As if the schedulers didn't know.
