As announced by the Mayor during the
Sept. 15 Town Council meeting, WSLS News Channel 10 held a community forum in Christiansburg's Town Hall on Sept. 22.
Anchor Jay Warren was on hand
to talk with nearly 40 citizens about his company's general approach on news coverage. He promoted some new web-based tools which will help "regular people"
contribute stories or story ideas, photos, and video
to the station. Those providing materials will get credit and it was flattering to some that the NRV market received attention.
One of the suggested story ideas was to track the
Vision 2020 plan recently unveiled by Town Council. Since the community meeting, this plan received
editorial attention by the
Roanoke Times suggesting the use of actual metrics and benchmarks. It suggests officials might have started with consulting citizens first, and who should now be ready to modify their ideas to align with what people want -- especially since those developing the plan may not be in office "come 2020."
If you weren't able to make the WSLS meeting, you can view videos here. Note another goal for
Vision 2020 is to "install a video and sound system in the town council chambers" (without saying how those recordings will be shared).
Note: If the video hangs up, right click and select "settings" and then choose "unlimited" local storage.
