The weather over the past two days has folks scrambling to stay high and dry.

News outlets are asking "citizen journalists" to provide them with pictures of area flooding, and these examples are streaming in -- urban flooding problems experienced this May are seeping up again, too, but hopefully Christiansburg homes won't be overwhelmed with raw sewage this time.

One news reports says that Christiansburg residents have cleaned out home improvement stores of certain items, including sump pumps.  Montgomery County Public Schools took the rare step of closing one strand, proactively ensuring children were kept away from areas of expected flooding around the North Fork feeding into the Roanoke River.

The autumn leaves are adding to this challenge right now, as these can easily clog up stormdrains (along with other debris and related issues).  Christiansburg personnel have an unending job in working to keep these culverts open.  Citizens can find some stormwater information on the town's web site, including seeing which watershed area they live or work in.

Seeing what 2-4 inches of rain can do here in the mountains makes you wonder about the folks living in the lowlands, close to the shore at sea level.
